2011 National Gathering Welcome
Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are all parts of his body, and each one of us has different work to do. And since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others. Romans 12:4-6 NLT
God has created a wonderfully diverse world, with thousands upon thousands of different animals and plants. He has also created us, human beings, in his image – yet each one of us is unique; each of us has characteristics that make us uniquely who we are – our defining difference.
Just as with plants, animals, and humans, organizations have characteristics that make them unique. If I asked you to think of McDonalds and Burger King and list how they are similar you would put down things like they both provide fast food, they both serve hamburgers, a meal costs (about) the same at either place, and so on. But, just as easily, perhaps more so, you could list what makes them unique – how they cook their hamburgers, their decor and color schemes, the taste of their fries (I personally prefer McDonalds’ fries), their secret sauce, and on and on.
We know, probably through years of being bombarded with advertising, what the defining differences are between two hamburger chains, but can we as easily articulate what makes Love In the Name of Christ unique? What is our defining difference? Or, are we just another (one of thousands) ministry trying to help people?
At this gathering we will explore, together, what those defining differences are for Love In the Name of Christ. We will look at what makes Love INC so unique, different, and appealing to churches, those we serve, and ourselves. We will also dialogue, together, to define what the new, restructured Love INC will be – what will be the defining differences in how we, as the Love INC movement operate.
This is a both a challenging and exciting time for Love In the Name of Christ. The Love INC board and staff look forward to seeing all of you at this national gathering of the Love INC Movement. Please join us and come prepared to actively participate and provide your input – for we are indeed all part of one body in Christ and we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others.
