A sharp increase in poverty and joblessness in Twin Cities suburbs confirms numbers of the new poor are on the rise. “They were pretty secure, living the American dream, and now it’s been snatched from them,” said Love INC President Robert Odom.
In Gurnee, IL, Love INC of Lake County Northeast Executive Director Spark Ball confirms census numbers showing increasing poverty in the Chicago area with reports of formerly middle-class families now seeking help from Love INC.
Love INC Reports Calls for Help Have Doubled
The sliding economy has led to twice as many calls for help to Love INC affiliates around the country.
Local affiliates feel the effect of the increase in need and a record 15 new affiliates have opened in 2010 to serve the needs of the poor.
Love INC has experienced a record number of affiliates opening their doors across the country to serve the needs of the poor during these tough economic times.
Responding to Census figures showing 14.3 percent of Americans are in poverty, the highest rate since 1994, Love INC reports it has opened a record number of affiliates around the country in 2010 as churches network together to meet the needs of the poor.
With one in seven Americans now living in poverty, Love INC President Robert Odom says the fight against poverty starts by loving people in need.
