Ready To Fight

The last year of my life has been one of the most challenging, most difficult, most rewarding and most beautiful of my life. I thank God for shining His light to guide me out of the darkness and show me that life is a thing worth cherishing. When I first walked through the doors of the Love INC of Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, about three years ago, I was six months pregnant, struggling to stay sober, living in a camper out in Sterling with a man that was deep in his addiction to drugs and alcohol and had become mentally, physically and sexually abusive. I knew I needed to get out of the situation I was in before my child was born and turned, in desperation, to Love INC for help.

Although I was not ready to turn my will and my life over to the care of Christ at that point in my life, I always remembered the kindness I had been shown at Love INC. Fast forward two and a half years. I had completed treatment at Serenity House, moved into sober-living, separated from my abuser and was making progress with OCS (office of children’s services).  I needed assistance paying my rent, and once again turned to Love INC. This time, though, was different. I was equipped with the tools I needed to make changes in my life. I was ready to fight for my sobriety, for my son, and for myself. In my interview, I could tell that Leslie and Allison were genuinely happy to see the transformation I was making in my life.

A friend from sober living (who was also a Love INC volunteer), encouraged me to pay-it-forward and volunteer at Love INC. Immediately, I felt like God had given me a gift I had never imagined receiving in my life. I started out answering phones and learning the application process. Being able to help other people, who were walking the same path I had once been on solidified my recovery and my faith in God’s plan. I prayed for a job-opening, and my prayer was answered.

Today, I am a full-time employee and I believe this is what I was meant to do. I see now that God has a perfect plan for my life. Everyday I am given a beautiful example of God’s grace and ability to heal us. The twisted and dark path I thought I was stuck on eventually led to a place of light and love and… Love INC.

Today I am a grateful believer. I am truly humbled by the opportunities god has given me, as a mother, a daughter, a proud employee, and friend. I love Love INC!
