Through One Central Connection Point, Something Unexpected Began to Unfold

An unkept beard, greasy hair, dirty clothes, and a faded tattoo sleeve told the story of years spent surviving hard things. Robert’s life had been marked by hardship and a heart that had grown guarded along the way.

It started with a furniture request—that’s what led him to reach out to Love INC of Greater O’Brien County in Iowa. He didn’t think highly of Christians. In fact, he was pretty honest about that. But he needed help. Then came a disability—and a cancer diagnosis.

And through one central connection point, something unexpected began to unfold.

Furniture was delivered when needed to his apartment. Thanksgiving and Christmas meal kits arrived so he could cook and share with friends. Volunteers gave ride after ride to chemotherapy appointments and lab draws. Phone calls checked in regularly, and when the disease began taking a toll on his body, supplemental nutrition shakes were delivered to his door.

Through that single connection point, 31 coordinated touchpoints of care flowed into his life—moments of practical help, relational encouragement, medical support, and church involvement.

Not because he had to search from agency to agency.
Not because he was bounced from office to office.

But because in his county, churches had chosen to work together. And slowly, something deeper began to change.

One day Robert shared something that caught everyone by surprise: for the first time in thirty-five years, he had stepped foot inside a church again. Before long he was faithfully attending—his cancer had gone into remission and he was beginning to feel good again.

That’s why the call that morning caught Kristi and her team off guard. Their neighbor and friend had passed away in his sleep the night before.

The news brought sadness—but also peace. Because in the final year of his life he had been surrounded by a community of churches who loved and cared for him well. He had let his guard down, and there is hope that today he rests at the feet of Christ.

Through one central connection point, neighbors like Robert no longer have to navigate fragmented systems alone.

There is a central place to turn.

And today, across the country, more communities are beginning to build this kind of coordinated, Christ-centered care through Love INC so that more Robert’s can experience a life transformed.

But the map is not finished.

Will you take that first step today, and help bring this kind of care to those who need it most?
